As part of our routine yacht maintenance I regularly check the valve clearances on our Yanmar 4JH45 diesel engines. Doing this helps ensure our engine remains in spec and performing well.
In the video below, I explains how I check and adjust the valve clearances on our engines based on the information in the Yanmar service manual and what I've learned from a Yanmar technician. I also show you how to find top dead center. Our motor is a 4JH45 so according to the service manual this process is relevant to the 4JH57, 4JH80 and 4JH110 as well.
These are the main tools you'll need for the job:
Metric socket kit - 10mm and 19mm
Rachet
Checking the valve clearances is also part of the advised maintenance program if you have STEINBAUER PowerModules installed. We have them on both engines and have been very happy with the performance; you can read more about that here.

Thanks for posting this Video! I found it extremely helpful as I adjusted the valves on my Yanmar 4JH57 for the first time!
All the critical pieces of information to understand exactly what is needed next and in a great order where included. 3 of the 4 cylinders where in perfect adjustment on my engine but one cylinder was at 0.006 so adjusted so it was at 0.008. This is the first adjustment as engine is new and only has 175 hours on it.
