The JOBY GorillaPod is a highly versatile, flexible tripod featuring fully articulated legs, a 360° panning bed, and a 90° tilt for precise position control. It utilizes a standard camera thread and is available in multiple weight capacities.

Why it's Onboard

I think these flexible tripods are perfect for sailing and travel vloggers. The GorillaPod 1K is my go-to tripod on the boat because I can dynamically twist the legs to safely hold the camera to highly unusual surfaces like the davit or stanchions. I also frequently fold the legs entirely straight to use it as an impromptu selfie stick while walking around.

Real-world Verdict

The rubberised feet and flexible legs have made this tripod so much more functional around a boat compared to a traditional fixed leg tripod. Over the years we've owned 3 different GorillaPod camera tripods.

• GorillaPod 500 (Up to 500g)

• GorillaPod 1K (Up to 1kg)

• GorillaPod 3K for our larger cameras (Up to 3kg)​

Of those we'd recommend either the GorillaPod 1K or GorillaPod3K. The GorillaPod 500 is a good design, but is only usable for lightweight action cameras.
